Ronald McDonald House commends Trainee
SpeakOut Trainee, Will Smit, was recently honoured by Ronald McDonald House for his design and contribution to The Shack.
The Shack is a new addition to Ronald McDonald House, Herston, and has been established to provide a sanctuary exclusively for teenagers staying at the house.
Designed with a beach hut theme, teenagers staying at Ronald McDonald House will be able to access The Shack to play computer games, read, listen to music and just 'chill out'.
Will Smit, through SpeakOut and Empower Plus Network (a SpeakOut Partner), supported the development of The Shack through his design of a wooden surfboard (donated by City Beach), which has become a defining feature in the room.
Ronald McDonald House Executive Director, Marie Turner, was so overwhelmed with the final product that Will and SpeakOut were hosted by Ms. Turner to view the room and final product prior to it's official opening.
Will was equally impressed with the final product and proud that he could contribute his skills in such a tangible and meaningful way.
The Shack will be officially opened on Monday 14th January by The Hon. Stephen Robertson, Minister for Health.
