Thank you for sharing our amazing journey in 2007
The support and investment of numerous people and organisations, in the lives of young people and communities SpeakOut works with, has ensured some outstanding successes in 2007.
The support of partners, clients, suppliers and funders has caused and empowered many, many people to change their world.
Listed below is a very small sample of some of the things we have been able to achieve because of the generous investment of time, knowledge, passion and dollars:
- 20 young people graduated from the SpeakOut Traineeship with outstanding further employment and training successes
- An additional 20 young people are currently employed full-time and recently staged their own exhibition and made their first sale of arts product
- Hundreds of Indigenous young people in communities of Woorabinda, Cherbourg, Logan, and Palm Island have been developing their skills, documenting their stories, experiencing what it means to have Pride in Self, Pride in Community, Pride in Culture and showcasing their talents
- Young people in rural communities and communities that have experienced natural disasters, were able to document their stories and develop a resource to assist other young people cope more effectively with emergency situations
- Young people in care have developed their skills and acknowledge "feeling heard" for the first time in their lives and now have opportunities and vehicles by which to tell their stories and educate others about better ways of managing child protection issues
- Indigenous Elders have shared and documented their stories
- Children have learnt how to apply their diverse literacies and ways of seeing the world to short films and animation
- Community organisations, government bodies and corporates have been supported to communicate important ideas and information to new audiences
- Transport bodies have been able to implement strategies that reduce at risk behaviours around dangerous sites
- Young people have had transport barriers removed, allowing them to more effectively participate in employment and training opportunities
- Young people in rural areas have opportunities to be creative industries practioners and rural communities have opportunities to shift their reliance on threatened industries
- Children and Young people throughout the state have been consulted about their cultural needs
- Young people caring for parents have a medium by which they can network, share experiences and build capacity
- Fledgling social enterprises have been supported and now have the opportunity to grow and change their world
- School children in 9 schools throughout Queensland have the opportunity to lead practical and meaningful social change in their communities
