Trainee involvement an Uncharted success

More than 30 young people from migrant communities throughout Brisbane and Logan recently performed at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts in a production titled Uncharted.

From the 6th to the 8th December Vulcana Women's Circus, Multilink Community Services, Brisbane Multicultural Arts Centre and SpeakOut presented Uncharted as the culmination of an arts and cultural project that explored the skills, stories and ideas of young people from refugee backgrounds.

SpeakOut's involvement was quite extensive and included Trainees, based in Logan, attending several weeks of workshops and rehearsals to film, photograph and document the process.

SpeakOut Trainee Jade Thomson designed the final Uncharted logo, while Tianay Coleman was the Trainee responsible for the final poster design.

Additionally, Trainee Graduate Angus McLeod designed and produced the animation and multimedia presentation that accompanied the performance piece.

The short season was extremely well received and much of Uncharted's success can be attributed to the hard work and creative talent of SpeakOut's Trainees and Social Change Program Staff.

The Logan based Trainees have also been sharing their expertise with students from Springwood State High School through the facilitation of workshops in Adobe Photoshop.

Using images photographed by the Springwood High students and prints they had previously developed at Logan Art Gallery, the Trainees were able to support the students to produce artwork that will be applied to postcards portraying positive aspects of the environment in Logan.
